The Mohali police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the wife, mother-in-law, and father-in-law of a 27-year-old man who was found dead in a canal. The victim, identified as Rohit, a resident of TDI City, was discovered on June 5, 2026.

Details of the Incident

According to the victim's family, Rohit married Payal, a resident of Nabha, in February 2026. The family alleged that Payal was pressuring Rohit to live separately from his parents, which caused him significant mental stress. On May 31, Rohit left home on his motorcycle and did not return until late at night. Later that night, his motorcycle was found abandoned on the banks of a canal near Tahina village in the Sirhind area. The police recovered Rohit's body from the canal on June 5.

Legal Action Taken

Based on a complaint from Rohit's family, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for abetment to suicide against Payal, her mother, and her father. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to Rohit's death.
