President Droupadi Murmu delivered a powerful message to India's youth during the closing ceremony of the 19th National Jamboree in Lucknow, emphasizing the critical role young people play in nation-building and achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Cooperation Over Competition for National Strength
Addressing thousands of scouts and guides at the diamond jubilee celebrations of Bharat Scouts and Guides, President Murmu highlighted that while competition teaches valuable lessons, cooperation is essential for strengthening both society and the nation. "During the Jamboree, several competitions are being organized. From every competition, we get to learn new things. The team spirit gets strengthened, and it also inspires us to work harder. But, along with the spirit of competition, the spirit of cooperation is a must for the strengthening of the nation and society," she stated.
The President stressed that India currently stands at a pivotal moment in its development journey. With 65% of the population under 35 years old, she emphasized that this demographic dividend represents India's greatest asset in achieving the ambitious goal of 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
Government Initiatives and Environmental Responsibility
Murmu outlined the government's efforts to provide platforms for youth empowerment, specifically mentioning the 'Mera Yuva' initiative designed to channel young energy toward nation-building. She described these programs as crucial for harnessing the potential of India's young population.
The President also emphasized environmental responsibility, urging young people to adopt the Scouts and Guides principle of being 'friends of nature'. Adopting eco-friendly habits in daily life is essential for addressing global environmental challenges, she noted, adding that if all young people embrace this principle, "our planet will become greener and more prosperous."
Scouts' Service Spirit and Women's Empowerment
Highlighting the organization's service-oriented approach, Murmu praised the Scouts and Guides for always being at the forefront during emergencies, whether dealing with floods, earthquakes, or epidemics. She revealed impressive statistics about the organization's reach, noting that India has over 63 lakh Scouts and Guides, making it one of the largest such organizations globally.
In a significant achievement for gender equality, the President highlighted that more than 25 lakh guides are girls, demonstrating substantial progress in women's participation. She also commended the Brahma Kumaris for their work in promoting meditation, human values, women's empowerment, and education, describing their service as "inspiring and commendable."
The event saw participation from prominent political figures including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. In his address, Adityanath connected spiritual values with contemporary challenges, stating that terrorism and global disturbances stem from uncontrolled mental tendencies, and emphasized India's ongoing fight against these forces both physically and spiritually.
Governor Patel expressed pride in attending the Jamboree and witnessing participants' skills during both inauguration and closing sessions. The event concluded with a reinforced commitment to youth development and nation-building, aligning with India's philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - One Earth, One Family, One Future.
