Opposition Targets Modi Government Over Commercial LPG Price Hike
The opposition parties have launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led government following the recent increase in commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder prices. The price hike, they argue, has made the humble roti thali more expensive for ordinary citizens, adding to the financial burden on households already grappling with inflation.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera stated, "Cylinders don't get expensive, roti thali does. This government has consistently failed to control price rise, and the common man is paying the price." He accused the administration of prioritizing corporate interests over the welfare of the people.
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was raised by Rs 25.50, effective from March 1, 2023. This is the second increase in two months, following a Rs 50 hike in January. The cumulative effect has led to a significant rise in the cost of cooking fuel for small businesses and households that rely on commercial cylinders.
Other opposition leaders, including those from the Trinamool Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the Left parties, echoed similar sentiments. They demanded an immediate rollback of the price hike and accused the government of being out of touch with the struggles of the common people.
The government, however, defended the move, citing global crude oil price fluctuations and the need to maintain fiscal discipline. Officials argued that the increase was minimal and necessary to ensure the availability of LPG in the market.
Despite the government's justification, the opposition's narrative has gained traction on social media, with hashtags like #RotiThaliExpensive and #LPGPriceHike trending. Many users shared images and anecdotes highlighting the impact of the price rise on their daily budgets.
As the political battle intensifies, the common man remains caught in the crossfire, hoping for relief from the rising cost of living.
