Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday described the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, as "deeply distressing" and called on the state government to expedite relief efforts for the affected victims. The landslide, which occurred in the early hours of the day, has caused significant damage to property and displaced several families in the region.

The Wayanad constituency, which Gandhi represented in the Lok Sabha until 2019, holds personal significance for the Congress leader.
Impact of the Landslide
The landslide struck near the Meppadi area of Wayanad district, damaging several houses and roads. According to local officials, at least 10 people have been reported missing, and rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate them. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to assist in search and rescue operations. Over 50 families have been evacuated to temporary relief camps set up by the district administration.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed officials to ensure prompt relief measures.
