Rajouri Police Confiscate Suspicious PIA Aircraft Balloon
In a significant development, police in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district have seized a balloon that closely resembled an aircraft and bore the inscription of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The incident was reported by the news agency ANI, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region.
Discovery and Immediate Police Action
According to official statements, the object was first spotted within the jurisdiction of the Teryath Police Post. Law enforcement officers acted swiftly upon receiving the information, taking the balloon-like structure into their possession without delay. Police have confirmed that no electrical or electronic components were attached to the object, though further details about its origin or purpose are still awaited as investigations continue.
Heightened Vigilance Along the Line of Control
This seizure occurs against a backdrop of increased alertness along the Line of Control (LoC). Earlier this month, the Indian Army successfully thwarted multiple attempts by Pakistani drones to intrude into Indian airspace in the neighboring Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials detailed that the latest drone incident took place between 5:45 am and 6:00 am, when at least two small quadcopters attempted to breach the LoC in the Poonch area.
Swift counter-drone measures by vigilant Indian Army personnel forced the quadcopters to retreat, preventing any potential security breach. Authorities emphasized that this was not an isolated event, noting multiple drone sightings along the LoC and International Border in recent days. In response, the Indian Army has ramped up surveillance and monitoring efforts to deter and counter any future attempts.
Previous Incidents Involving Balloons
This is not the first time such objects have been found in the region. On February 23, two balloons were discovered near the LoC in the Akhnoor sector, with United States and Pakistani currencies (USD and PKR) attached to them. Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted an investigation to verify the authenticity of the currency, underscoring the persistent nature of these security challenges.
The ongoing incidents highlight the complex security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir, where authorities remain on high alert to safeguard national borders. The seizure of the PIA balloon adds to a series of events that demand continuous vigilance and proactive measures from security forces.
