Samajwadi Party Chief Levels Serious Allegations Against BJP Over Electoral Process
In a significant development, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has made serious allegations regarding the ongoing electoral revision process in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Speaking at a press conference, Yadav claimed that the government has mobilized agencies and professionals from Delhi, Lucknow, and various other locations across the country to work with complete voter lists.
Allegations of Targeted Booth Identification and Form 7 Manipulation
"They have the complete voter list and are using it to identify the booths where the Samajwadi Party won the elections," Yadav stated, as quoted by news agency ANI. "Form 7 is being completed and printed at these locations, and disturbances have occurred at many of them."
The SP leader's comments point to what he describes as systematic efforts to manipulate the electoral revision process in key constituencies where his party has previously demonstrated strength.
Bihar Precedent and West Bengal Concerns
Yadav further escalated his allegations by referencing the recent Bihar elections. "They (the BJP) have already won the Bihar elections through the use of Special Intensive Revision (SIR)... They are now trying the same approach in West Bengal with SIR," he asserted.
The SP chief echoed concerns expressed by West Bengal's state government, quoting their characterization of the Election Commission. "The state government and the Chief Minister there repeatedly claim that the Election Commission has become the BJP's commission... The Election Commission should simply hoist the BJP's flag," Yadav added, highlighting the political tensions surrounding electoral processes in multiple states.
Election Commission Extends Revision Deadline in Uttar Pradesh
Amid these allegations, the Election Commission of India has taken administrative action regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. The Commission has officially extended the deadline for filing claims and objections until March 3, 2026.
This extension follows a formal request from Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer, who sought additional time to enable citizens to properly submit their claims and objections. The decision was made under Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
The timeline for this process is as follows:
- Draft electoral rolls were published on January 6, 2026
- The original deadline for submissions was February 6, 2026
- The new extended deadline is March 3, 2026
According to an official letter issued by the Election Commission on February 5, this nearly one-month extension is intended to "facilitate wider public participation and thorough verification." The Commission emphasized that the additional time will give citizens sufficient opportunity to:
- Check their entries in the electoral rolls
- Seek corrections for any inaccuracies
- Raise objections where necessary
- Apply for inclusion if previously omitted
The extension represents a significant administrative adjustment to the electoral revision process, coming at a time when political parties are expressing concerns about the integrity of voter list management across multiple states.
