Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has stated that the DMK allowed its alliance partners to extend support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government, in order to prevent the imposition of President's rule in the state.
Stalin's remarks on alliance support
Speaking to the media, Stalin said that leaders of the alliance parties have themselves stated in various forums that they informed the DMK president about their decision to support TVK. He emphasized that this move was necessary to ensure political stability and avoid a constitutional crisis.
Background of the political situation
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu witnessed a significant shift after the recent elections, with no single party securing a clear majority. The DMK, which emerged as the single largest party, was unable to form the government on its own. In this scenario, the alliance partners decided to back TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay, to form a coalition government.
Stalin clarified that the DMK respected the decision of its allies and did not obstruct the formation of the TVK-led government. He added that the primary objective was to prevent President's rule, which would have been detrimental to the state's democratic process.
Reactions from political circles
The statement from Stalin has drawn mixed reactions from political analysts and opposition parties. Some have praised the DMK for its pragmatic approach, while others have criticized it for allowing allies to switch sides. However, Stalin maintained that the DMK's actions were in the best interest of the state.
Meanwhile, TVK leader Joseph Vijay welcomed Stalin's remarks and reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Tamil Nadu. He assured that his government would work in coordination with all parties for the development of the state.
