Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday threw down the gauntlet to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, challenging him to a public debate in the state assembly on the performance of the previous BRS government during its 10-year rule and the Congress regime's record over the past two-and-a-half years.
"Let us discuss. I will apologise if I lose in the performance debate or else you go back and take rest in your farmhouse," Revanth said while addressing a public meeting at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district.
Congress Government's Welfare and Development Initiatives
Highlighting the Congress government's welfare and development initiatives, the chief minister said 15 lakh new ration cards had been issued, 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses sanctioned and 1.25 lakh completed. He said 45 lakh families were receiving LPG cylinders at Rs 500, while 50 lakh households were benefiting from 200 units of free electricity.
The government has paid Rs 10,000 crore to TGSRTC towards free bus travel for women, spent Rs 20,600 crore on waiving farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh, deposited Rs 27,000 crore under Rythu Bharosa, provided 67,600 government jobs and paid a Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine variety paddy.
Political Confidence and Accusations
With BRS leaders planning a padayatra in the district and stepping up attacks on his government, Revanth expressed confidence that Congress would retain power and that he would continue as chief minister till 2034. Accusing KCR of betraying Mahbubnagar after being elected as its MP in 2009, Revanth said Congress would not allow the BRS to regain political ground in the district and vowed to transform Palamuru into a model district.
Targeting both BRS and BJP, he said villages with Indiramma houses would testify Congress's performance, while hitting back at BJP MP D Arvind's criticism by asserting that Prime Minister Modi, not he, should step down over the Centre's refusal to procure Telangana's entire paddy output.
"If Rahul Gandhi is the Prime Minister, I will convince him to purchase the entire 75 lakh metric tonnes of paddy Telangana is procuring from the farmers and also get national status for Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme," he said.
