Lucknow: Two friends on a motorcycle were killed after being hit by a speeding unidentified truck on Kisan Path in Gosaiganj on Wednesday afternoon. One of the victims had become a father three days ago, said police.
Victims Identified
Suraj Rawat (21) and Swayam Singh (20), residents of Nizampur Majhingwa village under Sushant Golf City police limits, were childhood friends and worked together as painters in the city.
Accident Details
According to police, the duo was commuting on a motorcycle towards Mohanlalganj for work when the accident occurred near Duniyapat Kheda village on Kisan Path in Gosainganj area.
After the collision, both youths were dragged along the road for several metres along with the motorcycle. Swayam Singh died on the spot, while Suraj sustained critical injuries. Police rushed Suraj to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Investigation Underway
Police launched search for the truck and its driver who fled the scene and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. A case was registered, said police.
Family in Grief
Family members said Suraj married Babli a year ago and had become father of a baby boy three days ago. Family members said Suraj was the sole breadwinner of the household.
Police sent both bodies for postmortem.
