A disaster management training programme under the Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative has commenced in Thiruvananthapuram district. The programme is being jointly organized by the National Disaster Management Authority, State Disaster Management Authority, and District Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat, an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Its aim is to train volunteers in disaster response.
Inauguration and Duration
The training programme was inaugurated by District Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Anu Kumari, at the Institution of Engineers. This seven-day camp is designed to equip youth with essential disaster preparedness and response skills.
Training Curriculum
Participants will receive scientific training and awareness on handling emergency situations. The curriculum includes fundamentals of disaster management, disaster response operations, basic first aid, and preparedness for search and rescue missions. Additionally, the programme covers snakebite prevention and precautions, as well as fire safety protocols.
Benefits for Volunteers
Volunteers who successfully complete the training will be awarded certificates, identity cards, uniforms, and emergency kits. This initiative aims to build a skilled cadre of youth ready to assist in disaster situations.
