Chandigarh: Haryana is set to host the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region North Zone-II Conference for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the state's legislative institution. The three-day conference will be held in Chandigarh from June 8 to 10, bringing together presiding officers and senior public representatives from across the country.
Key Dignitaries and Participation
The conference will be chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and attended by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and several other distinguished dignitaries. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has also been invited. The event has received confirmation from legislative bodies representing more than half of India's states, underlining its national significance. So far, 15 state legislatures, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, have confirmed their participation.
Preparations and Government Support
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan has been reviewing preparations for the conference, including venue, accommodation, transport, security, and hospitality arrangements. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who recently reviewed the preparations with Kalyan, has declared the event a ‘State Function' to ensure full government support. The Speaker said the conference would strengthen parliamentary democracy and provide a valuable platform for exchanging legislative experiences and best practices among states, making it a memorable and productive event.
