In a continued crackdown on the use of banned polythene, the Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) jointly conducted inspections and issued challans to 12 shopkeepers for violating the plastic ban. The enforcement drive was carried out in various markets across the city on Monday.
Details of the Enforcement Drive
The teams led by Sanitary Inspector Raj Kumar and other officials raided multiple commercial establishments. They seized a significant quantity of banned polythene bags and imposed fines on the violators. The shopkeepers were found using polythene bags with a thickness less than 50 microns, which is prohibited under the Haryana Plastic Waste Management Rules.
Actions Taken
- 12 challans were issued to shopkeepers for using banned polythene.
- Seized polythene bags were confiscated and will be disposed of as per rules.
- Shopkeepers were warned of stricter action if found violating the ban again.
Purpose of the Drive
The drive aims to reduce plastic pollution and promote eco-friendly alternatives. The authorities have appealed to the public to avoid using polythene and switch to cloth or jute bags.
This is part of a series of regular inspections being conducted across Haryana to enforce the plastic ban. The municipal corporation has urged citizens to report any instances of polythene use to help keep the city clean.
Further drives will continue in the coming weeks to ensure compliance with environmental norms.
