Tragic Death in Ahmedabad Highlights Civic Negligence
A 50-year-old man from Ahmedabad's Kubernagar area lost his life in a tragic accident caused by a damaged manhole cover that local authorities had repeatedly been warned about. Nandlal Ambwani succumbed to severe head injuries after his two-wheeler hit the broken sewer cover on the night of November 26.
Multiple Warnings Ignored Before Fatal Accident
In the week leading up to the fatal incident, residents of Kubernagar Ward A had registered multiple complaints with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's north zone engineering department about the dangerous manhole cover. The first complaint was filed on November 16, followed by another on November 17, and a final warning was submitted just one day before the accident on November 25.
Despite these repeated alerts, the AMC failed to repair the damaged infrastructure, leading to the tragic consequences. Local residents expressed frustration that their concerns about public safety had been completely ignored by the civic authorities.
The Fatal Night and Aftermath
CCTV footage of the incident captured the moment when Ambwani's vehicle dipped into the unrepaired cavity where the sewer manhole cover was damaged. The impact caused the 50-year-old to lose control of his two-wheeler, throwing him off the vehicle and resulting in severe head injuries.
Though bystanders immediately rushed Ambwani to the nearby Civil Hospital, his injuries proved fatal. He suffered a brain haemorrhage from the impact and succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
In a heartbreaking development, police official G-Division traffic PI V D Vaghela confirmed that the deceased's family declined to file any formal police complaint regarding the incident, adding another layer of tragedy to the situation.
