A family in north Bengaluru experienced a rude awakening on June 5 when they discovered that burglars had broken into their villa and stolen gold jewellery valued at Rs 30-35 lakh. The incident occurred at Prestige Oasis Villas on Adde Vishwanathapura Road in Rajanukunte.
How the burglary unfolded
According to the complaint filed by the homeowner, Rohit Basumatary (38), the family had gone to sleep around 10 pm on June 4. Sometime before dawn, the burglars gained entry through the kitchen door while the occupants were asleep in one of the bedrooms. The intruders moved stealthily through the house and entered the master bedroom, where they targeted valuables stored inside a wardrobe.
Stolen items
Basumatary told police that the burglars escaped with a large quantity of gold jewellery, including a 30-gram necklace, earrings, multiple ornament sets, gold chains, pendants, and eight pairs of earrings. Police estimate the stolen items to be worth between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, making it one of the major house burglaries reported in the area in recent months.
Discovery and CCTV footage
The crime came to light when the family woke up around 5 am. Upon checking the CCTV cameras installed at the residence, they found footage of two suspects entering the house around 1.20 am. The burglars, wearing hoodies and jeans, had covered their faces with cloth to avoid identification.
Police investigation
Rajanukunte police have registered a case under Sections 331(4) (Punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking) and 305 (Theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation, or place of worship, etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
