In anticipation of large crowds for Christmas celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory outlining traffic regulations for key areas in South Delhi. The restrictions are primarily focused around major shopping malls and will be in effect over two days.
Dates, Timings, and Affected Malls
The traffic regulations officially began on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, 24 December 2025, from 2:00 PM onwards. The same restrictions will apply on Christmas Day, Thursday, 25 December, also starting at 2:00 PM.
The police stated that the measures are necessary due to expected festive gatherings at three prominent shopping centers: Select Citywalk Mall, DLF Avenue Mall, and the MGF Metropolitan Mall. Consequently, traffic movement is likely to be significantly impacted in the Saket and surrounding South Delhi localities.
List of Affected Roads and Diversion Points
Commuters should avoid the following stretches if possible. The main Press Enclave Road and the internal roads of Saket and Pushp Vihar will see regulated traffic flow.
To manage the flow, traffic personnel will be deployed at key diversion points:
- Sheikh Sarai Red Light (on LBS Marg)
- Asian Market Red Light (on MB Road)
- PTS Malviya Nagar Red Light (on Sri Aurobindo Marg)
Specific Traffic Restrictions in Place
In addition to general diversions, specific bans will be enforced for smoother movement. The median cuts from Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani will remain closed.
Furthermore, heavy vehicles and all DTC or Cluster buses are prohibited from using Press Enclave Road. Buses from this category will also not be allowed to proceed towards Pushp Vihar from the MB Road or Asian Market side.
Recommended Alternate Routes for Commuters
To assist drivers, the Delhi Traffic Police has suggested alternative pathways. For travel between Chirag Delhi and areas near MB Road, two primary options are available based on direction.
If your destination is Qutub Minar, you can take the route via the Khanpur T-Point onto MB Road, passing through Lado Sarai.
For those traveling from the IIT Flyover towards Sangam Vihar or Sainik Farm, a viable option is to go past the TB Hospital and Lado Sarai to reach MB Road. This circuit then continues towards Chirag Delhi before concluding at Khanpur.
Final Advisory from Traffic Police
The Delhi Traffic Police has urged all residents and visitors to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays. They have strongly advised people to avoid the affected stretches unless absolutely necessary.
Most importantly, commuters must follow all traffic rules and cooperate with the directions given by traffic personnel on the ground. Adhering to these guidelines will ensure safer and somewhat smoother travel during the festive congestion.
