In a comprehensive move to ensure hassle-free celebrations during the upcoming Chhath festival, the Dhanbad Traffic Police has rolled out an elaborate traffic management plan. The new regulations, designed to accommodate the massive influx of devotees, will be enforced from November 17th to 20th, 2023.
Key Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
The police department has identified several critical areas that will see temporary changes to facilitate smooth vehicular movement and ensure public safety.
Major restrictions include:
- Complete traffic halt on the Dhanbad-Chandrapura route near Sarai Dhela pond from 3 PM to 10 PM on November 17th and 18th
- Heavy vehicle diversion from Randhir Verma Chowk to alternative routes via Saraidhela and Loyabad
- Designated parking zones at DAV School Ground and other specified locations to prevent congestion
Strategic Planning for Devotee Safety
Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Kumar emphasized that the primary objective is to enable devotees to perform their rituals without traffic-related disruptions. "Our teams will be deployed at all strategic points to assist the public and manage the expected crowd," Kumar stated.
The traffic police have conducted extensive surveys of all major water bodies and ghats where devotees traditionally gather for Chhath prayers. Based on these assessments, the department has created contingency plans for potential overcrowding situations.
Public Advisory and Alternative Routes
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the suggested alternative routes during the festival period. The traffic police will install sufficient signage and deploy additional personnel to guide motorists through the diversions.
Recommended alternative routes include:
- Use Saraidhela bypass for interstate travel
- Take Loyabad route for coal field areas
- Utilize Katras Road for northern Dhanbad access
The department has also warned that vehicles parked in non-designated areas will be towed away to ensure emergency vehicle access remains unobstructed at all times.
