Financial Strain and Medical Expenses Suspected in Family Tragedy in Uttar Pradesh

In a heartbreaking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district, five members of a family were found dead inside their locked house in Amanpur town on Saturday. Authorities suspect that severe financial distress and mounting medical expenses for their 10-year-old son, who suffered from a neurological illness, may have driven the family to this tragic end.

Police Investigation and Autopsy Details

DIG (Aligarh Range) Prabhakar Chaudhary, who inspected the site, confirmed that the house was latched from the inside with no signs of forced entry. "From interactions with locals, financial distress appears to be a possible reason," he stated. Kasganj ASP Sushil Kumar shared autopsy details, revealing that the man, Shyamveer Singh (50), died due to hanging, while his wife, Ramshree (46), succumbed to haemorrhage. The three children—Prachi (14), Akanksha (12), and Girish (10)—are suspected to have died from poisoning.

"The viscera of the children has been preserved for further analysis as the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed," Kumar added, noting that the deaths likely occurred 48–72 hours before the bodies were discovered. Police reported that the children showed no visible external injury marks during the initial inspection.

Family Background and Financial Struggles

Shyamveer Singh, a welder by profession, lived with his family near a petrol pump in Amanpur, where he ran a rented welding shop and resided in the rear portion of the premises. His uncle, Gaya Prasad, highlighted the family's severe financial strain, stating, "His son Girish had a neurological problem. A lot of money was being spent on treatment. A few days ago, he had borrowed Rs 1,000 from a neighbour. He had taken financial help from others too."

Neighbours alerted police on Saturday evening after noticing the house had remained shut for an unusually long time and spotting Shyamveer hanging inside through an iron grill. Officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 PM, used a welding machine to cut open the door, and sent the bodies for postmortem examination.

Aftermath and Political Response

On Sunday, Shyamveer and Ramshree were cremated in Nagla Bhojraj, while their three children were buried. UP Congress chief Ajay Rai visited the bereaved family, expressing condolences and terming the deaths "tragic." He demanded that the government provide Rs 50 lakh compensation and a government job to one family member.

Police have stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events. This incident follows a similar case in Mathura, where a man allegedly killed his wife and three children before dying by electrocution, raising concerns about mental health and economic pressures in the region.
