A fire broke out on Friday on the fourth floor of the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) building located on Sahakar Marg in Jaipur. Officials reported that smoke began to billow from a room used for storing records, prompting an immediate evacuation as staff members rushed out of the building.
Fire Response and Containment
Fire brigade teams arrived at the scene within minutes and managed to bring the blaze under control after approximately 45 minutes of operation. According to officials, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Furniture, including chairs in the hall, was also damaged in the incident.
Impact on Documents
Sources revealed that the fourth floor housed truckloads of documents related to the RajWest power plant in Barmer. The operator of the power plant and the state government have been locked in a legal battle over power rates for several years. Some files were destroyed in the fire, but the identification of the specific files is yet to be ascertained.
Safety Measures
The building's alarm system was triggered when the fire broke out, alerting officials who rushed to the floor. Windows were opened to vent the dense smoke, and additional outlets were used to clear the area. Following the incident, the remaining records were shifted to another location. Officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.
