The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has officially launched a new one-year postgraduate programme designed to shape the next generation of policy leaders. The Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy Management (PGDPPM) represents a significant step in blending management education with governance expertise.
Programme Details and Government Collaboration
This innovative 45-credit diploma programme has been developed in partnership with the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India, marking a crucial collaboration between academia and government. The programme is being delivered with support from Talentsprint, part of Accenture, which provides the digital learning and delivery framework.
Specifically tailored for mid-career professionals working across government, corporate, and social sectors, the programme aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical policy implementation. The curriculum comprehensively covers public policy, sustainability, technology, strategy, and leadership components.
Admission Process and Eligibility Criteria
Applications are currently open for the batch scheduled to commence in February 2026. Prospective candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements, including holding a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA and possessing a minimum of five years of work experience.
The admission process will consider either the IIM Mumbai Admission Test (IMAT) or valid scores from CAT, GMAT, or GRE obtained within the past five years. Shortlisted candidates will then proceed to a personal interview round. The application window closes on December 20, 2025.
Building a Diverse Learning Environment
IIM Mumbai has strategically designed the programme to admit both DoPT-sponsored officers and external candidates, creating a unique learning ecosystem. This approach fosters a diverse cohort that enables multidisciplinary exchange and enriches classroom discussions through varied perspectives.
The programme methodology integrates simulations, applied projects, and peer learning to equip participants with practical skills to analyse complex policy issues and administrative challenges effectively. This hands-on approach ensures that graduates can immediately apply their learning in real-world scenarios.
This initiative aligns with IIM Mumbai's broader commitment to capacity-building initiatives for government departments and public sector professionals. According to official statements, the PGDPPM is part of a concerted effort to strengthen management and policy education specifically tailored to administrative and governance roles within the Indian context.
