The vigilance branch of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) launched a significant anti-encroachment drive across the Pink City on Thursday. The operation targeted illegal temporary structures that were occupying public spaces, particularly around popular tourist destinations and other congested areas, aiming to restore order and free up pathways for citizens and visitors.
Key Locations Targeted in the Drive
Officials confirmed that the crackdown was focused on several critical points across Jaipur. Prominent tourist hubs like Badi Chaupad, Choti Chaupad, and the bustling Tripolia Bazar were primary targets where unauthorized vendors and stalls were removed. The campaign, however, extended beyond the heritage core to other crowded parts of the city.
The list of cleared sites included Khatipura Road in front of NR Mart, the area around Jhotwara Puliya near Shani Temple, sections of Vaishali Nagar, and the vicinity of Amrapali Circle Nursery Park. Furthermore, actions were taken near the SMS Trauma Centre, outside GT Mall in Malviya Nagar, and along JLN Marg.
Seizures and Penalties Imposed
The vigilance team took strict action against the violators during the campaign. An official stated that the squad confiscated 10 containers worth of material from the encroached sites. All seized goods were subsequently transported and stored at a designated municipal warehouse.
In addition to the physical removal, the JMC officers imposed financial penalties on the offenders. A collective fine of Rs 39,900 was levied on those responsible for the illegal encroachments, underscoring the civic body's serious stance against the misuse of public property.
Sustained Efforts for an Encroachment-Free City
Authorities have indicated that this is not a one-off event but part of a sustained initiative. Another official added that similar campaigns are scheduled for the coming days. The goal is to ensure that the city's major arteries, market lanes, and public places remain free from illegal occupation, thereby improving accessibility, safety, and the overall urban aesthetic.
