Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday asserted that authorities are breaking every link in the drug trade chain, signaling an uncompromising stance against narcotics. Addressing a public rally in Kishtwar as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign, Sinha stated that the drive has already covered 19 districts across the Union Territory, reinforcing a collective commitment to rid villages and towns of drugs.
No Safe Haven for Drug Smugglers
Sinha emphasized that there would be no safe haven for cross-border smugglers, peddlers, or terror financiers. “Our agencies are hunting down every narco-terrorist and permanently dismantling their networks,” he added. The Lieutenant Governor noted that over the past two months, citizens from all walks of life have taken to the streets across the Union Territory, sharing the pain of affected families and energizing the youth. “Our goal is to foster a grassroots resistance against drug abuse and end narco-terrorism,” he said.
A 56-Day Mission
Sinha revealed that for 56 days, he has pursued a single mission: eliminating every drug smuggler and narco-terrorist from the region. “Narco-terrorists and drug smugglers, whether in Pulwama or Ramban, Kulgam or Kishtwar, must understand this truth: there will be no mercy for those who ruin the future of our young generation,” he declared. The L-G stressed that while drug addicts seeking recovery would be provided all possible assistance and brought back to the mainstream with compassion and dignity, such compassion cannot be wasted on narco-terrorists who profit from others' ruin. “My objective is very clear: ruthless action against narco-terrorists and unwavering protection for the innocent,” Sinha stated.
A Long-Term War
Although the J&K Drug-Free Campaign is scheduled for 100 days, Sinha described it as the start of a much larger fight. “It is a war of years, not a battle of weeks. Victory demands a unified, round-the-clock commitment. By mobilizing a whole society, we will ensure that J&K’s soil is completely cleared of drug smugglers and peddlers,” he said. He added that during his padyatra, he witnessed the incredible courage of young men and women breaking the shackles of addiction to reclaim their lives. “That is why we cannot fail,” he affirmed.
Community Engagement
The administration is embedding the spirit of this mission into the very fabric of neighborhoods, equipping communities to recognize warning signs, intervene early, and shield each other. Sinha reiterated that the campaign is not just about enforcement but also about prevention and rehabilitation, aiming to create a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through collective effort.
