The Karnataka government has released an additional Rs 72 crore to address the acute drinking water shortage in rural regions of the state. This supplementary fund aims to mitigate the worsening crisis as summer intensifies.
Emergency Measures Announced
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge stated that in unavoidable circumstances, directives have been issued to drill new borewells based on geologist reports. The minister also instructed officials to install necessary pipelines and pumping machinery to ensure water supply reaches affected villages.
Focus on Sustainable Solutions
The additional allocation comes as part of the state's proactive approach to water management. Officials have been asked to prioritize areas with severe scarcity and ensure transparency in fund utilization. The government has also emphasized the need for rainwater harvesting and recharge structures to prevent future crises.
This move follows earlier releases of emergency funds and is expected to benefit thousands of households across drought-prone districts. Local authorities have been directed to complete the drilling and installation work within a stipulated timeline to provide immediate relief to residents.
