Madurai corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar on Friday conducted a thorough inspection of sanitation operations, an Amma canteen, and the urban primary health centre in the Thiruparankundram and Chenkundram areas. The visit aimed at assessing the quality of public services and ensuring adherence to hygiene standards.
Amma Canteen Review
At the Amma canteen situated near the Thiruparankundram market, the commissioner examined the food preparation areas, stock of food items, and water facilities. He instructed the staff to maintain strict cleanliness and hygiene in both the cooking and dining areas. He stressed the importance of regular cleaning and proper storage of ingredients to prevent contamination.
Sanitation Inspection
Commissioner Kumar also reviewed the ongoing sanitation work in Thiruparankundram and Chenkundram. He interacted with municipal staff and urged them to ensure efficient waste collection and disposal. He advised the public to segregate waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories and hand them over to sanitation workers. This practice, he noted, would significantly aid in effective waste management and recycling efforts.
Urban Primary Health Centre Visit
Later, the commissioner visited the Thiruparankundram urban primary health centre. He reviewed the daily patient count, the types of medicines provided to patients, staff numbers, medicine stock, and the condition of water and toilet facilities. He emphasized the need for adequate medical supplies and proper amenities to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
World Environment Day Observance
On the occasion of World Environment Day, observed on Friday, Chennai municipal administrative director P Madhusudhan Reddy planted saplings on the premises of the Madurai corporation office. This initiative underscores the commitment to environmental conservation and green urban spaces.
The inspections and the tree-planting event reflect the corporation's focus on improving public services and promoting environmental sustainability in the city.
