Union Minister's Siaha Visit Strengthens Northeast Development Push

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Ram Nath Thakur made a significant visit to South Mizoram's Siaha district on Monday as part of the central government's 'Poorvottar Sampark Setu Programme'. The program aims to review and accelerate developmental activities in the northeastern regions of India.

Official Welcome and Agricultural Exhibition

Upon his arrival, Minister Thakur was formally received at the helipad by a delegation of local officials including Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) chief executive member M Laikaw, deputy commissioner VL Hruaizela Khiangte, and Siaha district superintendent of police Manjeet Singh Sankhla.

The minister's first engagement included visiting an agriculture exhibition organized by the state agriculture department at the Golden Jubilee Hall within the MADC Complex. The exhibition showcased the agricultural potential and innovations in the district, highlighting the sector's progress.

Minister's Assurance and Central Government's Commitment

Addressing a gathering in a program held in his honor, Thakur conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's greetings to the people of Siaha. He emphasized that his visit demonstrated the PM's personal commitment to strengthening development across the northeast region.

The Union minister assured the community that their concerns and requirements would be communicated directly to the Prime Minister. He reiterated that the central government gives highest priority to the development of remote and underserved regions like Siaha.

Thakur urged all stakeholders to work with dedication toward the effective implementation of central schemes in the district. He promised continued support from the Centre and encouraged both officials and citizens to submit proposals for additional assistance.

Local Leadership Appreciates Central Support

MADC chief executive member M Laikaw welcomed Minister Thakur on behalf of Siaha's residents and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support received from the central government, particularly for autonomous district councils. Laikaw also highlighted the developmental progress achieved by MADC under central guidance.

Program chairperson and deputy commissioner Khiangte presented a comprehensive overview of Siaha district's overall development status, outlining both achievements and ongoing challenges.

Focus on Agricultural Development

Officials from the state agriculture and farmers' welfare department presented detailed updates on central schemes being implemented in the district. They also submitted their specific requirements directly to the minister during the visit.

As part of his agricultural focus, Thakur inspected the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Siaha, where he interacted with senior scientist and head Dr H Vanlalhmuliana along with other staff members. The minister underscored the vital role of farmers in India's economy and reaffirmed the government's focus on improving farmers' welfare and livelihood.

He specifically urged the KVK to continue its efforts toward empowering local farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity in Siaha district, emphasizing the importance of agricultural research and extension services in rural development.

The visit concluded with mutual commitments toward accelerating development in this strategically important northeastern district, with assurances of continued central support and cooperation.
