For the sixth consecutive day on Monday, residents of Sectors 19 and 40 in Noida continued to receive discoloured water ranging from pale yellow to black from their taps. Alarmed by the persistent issue, many residents have raised health concerns and are purchasing potable water to meet their daily needs.
Authority's explanation disputed
Noida Authority's general manager (water and sewer), RP Singh, had earlier attributed the discolouration to summer heat dissolving minerals accumulated in supply pipes. He stated that flushing of pipes was conducted on Thursday and claimed the situation would be under control by evening. However, the problem has barely improved.
Residents demand accountability
Sector 19 RWA president RC Gupta rebutted Singh's claims, noting that the issue is confined to specific blocks. 'After the Authority's checks on Saturday, water became clear for a few hours on Sunday, but on Monday morning, the same foul, muddy, and black water returned,' Gupta said. He wrote to Singh requesting a thorough investigation to ensure accountability, citing possible blockages and leakages due to lack of maintenance.
These sectors receive fresh water twice daily, from 6-9am and 6-9pm. Residents reported that water tends to become cleaner towards the end of the supply windows.
Sector 40 resident Mohinder Singh criticized the handling of the system by contractual workers and demanded intervention by a higher-level supervisor, highlighting the deteriorating condition at the water tank pump station in Sector 41.
Meanwhile, residents of Sector 51 also reiterated their demand for flushing of supply pipelines, as they too are experiencing dirty water.
