In a significant move to tackle persistent traffic chaos, the Patna district administration and traffic police have announced a complete restructuring of vehicle movement around Patna Junction. The comprehensive plan, set to take effect from December 1, aims to eliminate chronic congestion, illegal parking, and disorganized auto-rickshaw operations that have long plagued the area.
Complete Ban on Public Vehicles Inside Station Premises
The most drastic change involves a complete prohibition on all public and commercial vehicles entering Patna Junction premises. This blanket ban explicitly includes auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and taxis. Under the new system, only private vehicles will be permitted to access the station building and platforms directly.
The decision follows a detailed joint inspection conducted by key officials including Patna Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma, and Traffic SP Vaibhav Sharma. Their assessment revealed that unregulated movement of public transport vehicles was the primary cause of the perpetual gridlock around the railway station.
New Route Maps for Smooth Traffic Flow
The administration has designed specific route patterns to streamline vehicle movement. Vehicles traveling from Kankarbagh to Patna Junction will now take the Chiraiyatand flyover, proceed over the GPO roundabout, continue over the R-Block roundabout, and then descend at R-Block to move directly to the multi-modal hub for passenger pick-up and drop-off.
Conversely, auto-rickshaws heading from the Junction to Kankarbagh will exit the multi-level hub, pass in front of platform number 4, proceed towards GPO, take the R-Block roundabout, and finally access the Chiraiyatand flyover.
Additional Restrictions and Enforcement Measures
Beyond the station premises, the movement of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws has been completely prohibited on both sides of Exhibition Road. Authorities have also declared a strict no-parking zone extending from the Patna Junction roundabout until the stretch beneath the GPO roundabout.
The administration has issued a stern warning that strict penal action will be taken against violators starting December 1. Officials emphasize that the restructuring aims to restore order around one of Bihar's busiest railway stations and ensure smooth, congestion-free movement for the thousands of daily passengers who depend on Patna Junction.
Authorities have appealed to citizens, commuters, and drivers to fully cooperate by strictly adhering to the new routes and parking regulations. The success of this initiative, they note, depends largely on public compliance and understanding of the significant changes being implemented.
