Several schools in Punjab's Jalandhar and Faridkot districts were thrown into panic on Thursday after receiving bomb threats via email. The threats prompted immediate police response, with authorities conducting thorough searches of the premises.
Threats Received via Email
According to officials, the threatening emails were sent to multiple schools in both districts early in the morning. The messages claimed that explosives had been planted on the school grounds, leading to the evacuation of students and staff as a precautionary measure.
In Jalandhar, at least three schools reported receiving the emails, while in Faridkot, two schools were affected. The police were alerted immediately and began coordinated search operations.
Police Search Underway
Police teams, along with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs, have been deployed to all affected schools. The searches are being conducted meticulously, covering classrooms, playgrounds, and other areas. As of the latest reports, no suspicious objects or explosives have been found.
Authorities have assured the public that they are treating the threats with the utmost seriousness and are working to trace the source of the emails. Preliminary investigations suggest the threats might be a hoax, but security measures remain in place until the searches are completed.
Response from Education Department
The Punjab Education Department has directed all schools in the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communication immediately. Parents have been advised to stay calm and cooperate with school authorities. The department is also coordinating with the police to ensure the safety of students.
This incident comes amid a spate of similar hoax threats targeting schools in other parts of the country, raising concerns about the vulnerability of educational institutions.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the origin of the emails. Cybercrime experts are also involved to trace the IP addresses and identify the perpetrators. Officials have urged the public not to spread unverified information that could cause panic.
Parents have been informed about the situation, and many have arrived at the schools to pick up their children. The schools are expected to remain closed for the day as a precaution, with classes to resume after the all-clear is given.
