A tragic accident occurred on Monday near the Pines area on Bhowali road in Nainital, where an SUV carrying three individuals veered off the road and plunged into a 120-meter deep gorge. The incident resulted in one fatality and left two others injured.
Accident Details
According to police, preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have briefly dozed off at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The SUV then careened off the road and fell into the deep gorge. Authorities have initiated a probe into the incident.
Rescue and Medical Response
Rescue operations were promptly carried out by a coordinated team comprising police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and fire service personnel. They managed to extract all three occupants from the gorge. The injured were immediately transported to BD Pandey District Hospital in Nainital for medical treatment. During treatment, one of the victims, identified as Rahul Kumar (21), a resident of Haldwani, was declared dead by doctors.
The two injured individuals have been identified as Arvind Singh (24), a resident of Dantiwada Damiyawas in Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, and Yuvraj Singh (20), from Jalamand in Jodhpur. Both are currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
Local Reaction
Local residents expressed anger over the response time, alleging that the ambulance took nearly an hour to reach the accident site. Officials stated that the incident was reported via the Dial 112 emergency helpline, following which the circle officer, along with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tallital and a police team, rushed to the scene. Authorities have informed the families of the victims.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
