Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has called upon Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to expedite the approval of Phase-II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. He also requested that the metro link connecting Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with the Bharat Future City corridor be taken up under Phase-III.
Meeting in New Delhi
Revanth met the Union minister in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the expansion of the metro network. Emphasizing the rising demand for metro services, the Chief Minister urged Khattar to fast-track the approval process so that Phase-II can be implemented as a joint venture between the central government and the Telangana government.
Comprehensive Plan for Phase-II
Revanth informed Khattar that the Telangana government has already formulated a detailed plan for Phase-II, which comprises seven corridors. He underscored the urgent need to expand the metro rail network to ensure safe mass public transportation and commuter convenience in the rapidly growing city of Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister explained that the state government has taken full control of Phase-I of the Metro Rail from L&TMRHL to facilitate the smooth and seamless execution of Phase-II and Phase-III. "With an aim of expanding the Metro rail network, the state government has already submitted a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase-II, covering a total distance of 122.9 km across seven corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 38,595 crore," Revanth stated.
Phase-III Proposal
To meet future public transportation requirements, the Chief Minister also urged Khattar to take up the RGI Airport-Bharat Future City corridor under Phase-III, the DPR for which has already been submitted.
The meeting was attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary K Srinivas, Special Secretary to the CM B Ajith Reddy, HMRCL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed, Government Advisor (Urban Transport) NVS Reddy, Officer on Special Duty at Telangana Bhavan (Delhi) Sanjay Kumar, and Secretary for Coordination of Central Government Schemes Advait Kumar Singh, among others.
