Telangana Revamps Indiramma Housing, Empowers Collectors

Hyderabad: Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday announced a major restructuring of the state's flagship Indiramma housing scheme, devolving greater authority to district collectors to speed up housing sanctions.

Special officers for each undivided district will be appointed to ensure better coordination between officials and elected representatives, and to pre-empt ground-level bottlenecks.

"Even those who did not apply earlier can now apply, and if found eligible, will be sanctioned houses. District collectors have been instructed to hold weekly reviews with district housing officials," he said at a review meeting held along with ministers G Vivek and Jupally Krishna Rao, and officials.

Stating that 3,500 houses have been sanctioned for each of the 119 assembly constituencies, he urged MLAs to take personal initiative to ensure construction is completed on schedule. "Wherever beneficiaries are unwilling to build houses, such units can be reassigned to other eligible individuals following due procedure," the minister said.

The restructuring aims to expedite the process and address delays. By empowering district collectors, the government expects faster approvals and better monitoring. The appointment of special officers is intended to streamline communication and resolve issues at the local level.

Minister Reddy emphasized the importance of weekly reviews to track progress and ensure that housing targets are met. He also called for transparency in the selection of beneficiaries and the reallocation of units when necessary.

The Indiramma housing scheme is a key initiative of the Telangana government, aimed at providing affordable housing to the poor and marginalized. With this overhaul, the government hopes to accelerate the delivery of houses and improve the overall effectiveness of the program.
