Rourkela: Irate locals staged a road blockade on National Highway 143 in the Biramitrapur area of Sundargarh district on Tuesday evening after a man was run over by a truck. The blockade, which continued until the time of filing this report, resulted in a massive traffic jam, with vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.
Victim Identified
The deceased was identified as Ramakant Kumar, aged 32. He was returning home on his motorcycle when a speeding truck allegedly ran over him around 6 pm. Birimitarapur police sent the body to the hospital for autopsy.
Protesters' Demands
Protesters were demanding compensation for the family of the deceased and strict enforcement of speed control measures. Police were trying to pacify the agitators.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid the stretch and seek alternative routes until the situation normalizes.
