A total of 512 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming municipal elections covering 80 wards across Fatehgarh Sahib district. The district includes the municipal councils of Fatehgarh Sahib, Sirhind, Bassi Pathana, Amloh, Khamano, and Mandi Gobindgarh.

The Congress party has fielded candidates in all 80 wards, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has contested in 75 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded candidates in 35 wards, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has contested in 20 wards. Independent candidates have also filed nominations for several wards.

Notable Contests

In Fatehgarh Sahib municipal council, a total of 15 wards will see contests. Sirhind municipal council has 13 wards, Bassi Pathana has 11, Amloh has 10, Khamano has 9, and Mandi Gobindgarh has 22 wards. The highest number of candidates have filed from Mandi Gobindgarh, with 142 candidates for 22 wards.

Scrutiny and Withdrawal

The scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for February 10, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 12. The elections will be held on February 20, and the counting of votes will take place on February 22.
