ABVP Candidate Anushka Files Cyber Complaint Over Obscene Content and Threats in Patna University Elections
In a disturbing development at Patna University, Anushka, the presidential candidate from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) elections, has formally lodged a complaint at the cyber police station. The young aspirant alleges a targeted campaign of harassment involving obscene photos and videos sent across social media platforms, which she describes as a deliberate attempt to demoralise her and sabotage her electoral efforts.
Allegations of Systematic Harassment and Intimidation
Speaking to reporters after filing the complaint on Tuesday, Anushka detailed the severity of the situation. "I came to the cyber police station and lodged a complaint because obscene and dirty photos and videos are being sent to me on Facebook, Instagram, and all other social media," she stated. "Efforts are being made to break my morale. Some people are deliberately doing it." She further claimed that the harassment escalated to include threats of physical harm, such as being shot, adding a grave dimension to the case.
Administrative Response and Broader Campus Concerns
Anushka reported that the administration has promised swift action against those responsible. As a female candidate contesting in a male-dominated arena, she pointed fingers at members of rival student organisations, linking the cyber harassment to broader tensions on campus. This incident follows reports of her posters being torn down by opponents, indicating a pattern of intimidation tactics.
Despite the ordeal, Anushka remained resolute. "I am not afraid of these things," she asserted, emphasising that the issue extends beyond her personal experience. "This is not just my problem; many students at PU complained about it to me. They do not lodge a complaint, considering their social standing and family decorum," she explained, highlighting a wider culture of silence around such harassment.
Viral Video and Escalating Controversy
The controversy intensified when a video of Anushka breaking down in tears went viral on Monday. In explaining the emotional moment, she revealed that false rumours were being spread about her character, with individuals tagging her in derogatory posts online. This viral episode has drawn increased attention to the pressures faced by student candidates in competitive election environments.
Police Investigation Underway
The Patna cyber police confirmed that the complaint has been received and that further investigation is underway. Authorities are examining the evidence to identify and take action against the perpetrators, as the case raises critical questions about cyber safety and ethical conduct in student politics.
