Amritsar Court Denies Anticipatory Bail to SAD Leader's Daughter in Fake Certificate Case
Amritsar court rejects Kanchanpreet Kaur's anticipatory bail plea

An Amritsar court has dismissed the interim anticipatory bail plea of Kanchanpreet Kaur, the daughter of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa and wife of alleged gangster Amritpal Singh Bath. The court's decision came after police informed it that Kaur was not cooperating with the ongoing investigation and had provided false information.

Court Order and Police Allegations

The Additional District & Sessions Judge in Amritsar passed the order on December 23, 2025, rejecting the bail application. This followed an earlier interim bail granted to Kaur on November 26, 2025, which allowed her to join the investigation on November 28.

However, according to Amritsar district attorney Amritpal Singh Khaira, Kaur failed to cooperate with the investigating agency after joining the probe. "She did not provide the documents and relevant information to the investigating officer," Khaira stated. The police had initially registered an FIR against her at the Majitha police station under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. During the investigation, further offences under the Passport Act and other sections of the BNS were added.

The Fake Certificate and Political Backdrop

Sources revealed a critical detail in the case: in April of this year, after returning from the UAE, Kanchanpreet Kaur filed for divorce in a court. The marriage certificate attached to this application was later found to be fake.

The legal troubles for Kaur are also linked to the recent Tarn Taran by-election, where her mother, Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, was an unsuccessful candidate in the November 11 bypoll. Kaur faces four separate cases registered against her during her mother's campaign. The Shiromani Akali Dal has consistently labeled these cases as political vendetta.

During the campaign, Kanchanpreet Kaur made speeches alleging that Aam Aadmi Party candidate and now MLA, Harmeet Singh Sandhu, had "turned" her husband into a gangster. Notably, she expressed sympathy for him in her speeches but never publicly disclosed that he was her husband or that she had filed for divorce.

Arrest Attempt and Judicial Proceedings

The case has seen dramatic judicial interventions. Police attempted to arrest Kanchanpreet Kaur on November 29. However, she was released following a special late-night hearing in the Tarn Taran court. This hearing was directed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 30.

The dismissal of her anticipatory bail now puts her at direct risk of arrest as the investigation progresses. The court's ruling underscores the seriousness of the charges, which now span allegations of forgery, violations of immigration and passport laws, and non-cooperation with a lawful police investigation.

The intertwining of family drama, political rivalry, and serious criminal allegations has placed this case at the center of political discourse in Punjab, highlighting the often-blurred lines between personal legal battles and the state's high-stakes electoral politics.
