Andhra Pradesh Government Finalizes Comprehensive Space Allocation Plan for New Amaravati Secretariat
In a significant administrative development aimed at streamlining governance in the capital region, the Andhra Pradesh state government has officially finalized a detailed space allocation plan for ministers, senior officials, and various departments within the upcoming secretariat towers at Amaravati. This strategic move marks a pivotal step toward creating a more organized and efficient administrative ecosystem in the state's capital.
Consolidation of Government Offices
Unlike the existing secretariat complex, the new towers will bring together all offices of heads of departments (HoDs), including secretaries, commissioners, and directors. No state-level office will be located outside the capital city and the secretariat towers, ensuring centralized governance and improved coordination across government functions.
The plan meticulously defines office spaces for every category of functionary to facilitate smooth coordination and enhance the operational efficiency of the government machinery. Designs were finalized after multiple rounds of discussions by the Group of Ministers (GoM) with senior officials, such as the chief secretary, special chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries, and HoDs. The final allocation blueprint is expected to be ready by the time the new secretariat structure is completed.
Detailed Space Allocation for Functionaries
According to the finalized blueprint, the space allocation is structured as follows:
- Ministers: Each minister will be allotted approximately 3,500 square feet, which includes a main chamber, meeting room, and designated staff areas.
- Senior Officials: Principal secretaries and secretaries will receive 2,000 square feet each, while special officers will have 1,000 square feet.
- Supporting Staff: Office chambers for Officers on Special Duty (OSDs) and personal secretaries will measure about 250 square feet, with personal assistants and clerical staff allocated around 120 square feet each.
- Administrative Support: Dedicated areas are earmarked for drivers, record rooms, and other administrative support sections to ensure comprehensive functionality.
Media Access and Conference Facilities
The plan also places a strong emphasis on media access and communication infrastructure. Press interaction rooms and media workspaces will each cover 300 square feet. Additionally, a dedicated conference hall for media briefings, capable of seating 75 individuals, will span 1,500 square feet, while a larger hall for 125 persons will occupy 3,125 square feet. A major conference hall with seating for 200 will be allocated 6,000 square feet, facilitating large-scale government events and announcements.
Departmental Allocations and Operational Needs
For departmental heads in the HoD towers, each will be provided with 3,500 square feet, while departmental wings will be allotted 1,200 square feet. Smaller units, such as receptions, record sections, and waiting halls, will range between 60 and 350 square feet, depending on specific operational requirements.
Officials have highlighted that this structured allocation is designed to foster an organized administrative environment in Amaravati. This initiative aims to enable ministers, officials, and departments to function more efficiently while ensuring better coordination across the government, ultimately enhancing public service delivery and governance effectiveness in Andhra Pradesh.
