Assam Government Implements Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle Ahead of Assembly Elections

In a strategic move preceding the upcoming assembly elections, the Assam state government has executed a sweeping reshuffle of its bureaucracy, transferring 15 senior IAS and state service officers across various districts and departments. This significant administrative overhaul aims to optimize governance and streamline operations as the political landscape intensifies.

Key Postings and Transfers in the Reshuffle

According to an official order from the personnel department, several high-profile changes have been made. Partha Pratim Majumdar, previously the commissioner and secretary of the home and political department, has been appointed as the district commissioner of Bajali. He replaces Mridul Kumar Das, who has been reassigned as additional secretary to the home and political and women and child development departments. Additionally, Das will take on the roles of state coordinator for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and CEO of the e-Foreigners Tribunal Project.

In another notable shift, Narendra Kumar Shah, the director of employment and craftsmen training, has been moved to the chief minister’s secretariat as secretary. He succeeds Aditya Vikram Yadav, who will now assume the position of district commissioner of Lakhimpur, replacing Pronab Jit Kakoty. Kakoty has been posted as additional secretary in the skill employment and entrepreneurship department and director of employment and craftsmen training.

Additional Administrative Changes Across Districts

The reshuffle also includes several other critical appointments. Preeti Kumari, joint secretary in the general administration department, has been named the new district commissioner of West Karbi Anglong. She takes over from Saranga Pani Sarma, who has been transferred to serve as secretary in the transport department and state project director of the inland water transport development society.

Furthermore, Ayushi Jain, joint secretary in the finance department, has been appointed as the district commissioner of Darrang, replacing Pubali Gohain. Gohain will now take charge as the district commissioner of Golaghat. The incumbent Golaghat DC, Parag Kumar Kakaty, has been reassigned as additional secretary in revenue and disaster management and additional CEO of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Continuations and New Assignments in Key Roles

Meenakshi Das Nath, the current additional CEO of ASDMA, has been relieved from this charge but will continue as the secretary of revenue and disaster management and project director of the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Project.

In other moves, Gautam Das, the district commissioner of Baksa, has been transferred to serve as secretary in panchayat and rural development. Meanwhile, Dhiraj Saud, secretary of the Bodoland Territorial Council, has been posted as the new district commissioner of Baksa.
