Bicholim Bypass Road Becomes Hazardous Due to Improper Trench Restoration
In Bicholim, a critical infrastructure project has turned into a public safety nightmare. Trenches excavated by the electricity department along the bypass road from Bicholim bus stand to Van Maulinguem for laying underground electricity cables have been left in a dangerously improper state after restoration. This negligence has transformed a vital thoroughfare into a perilous zone, alarming local residents and commuters who now face daily risks while navigating the damaged stretch.
Locals Voice Grave Concerns Over Narrowed and Damaged Roadway
Residents report that the road has become treacherously narrow, with approximately 2 meters of the stretch left unrepaired or poorly restored following the cable-laying work. This significant reduction in usable road space has forced vehicles, particularly those traveling towards Van Maulinguem and Chambharkond, to dangerously encroach onto the wrong side of the road to avoid the compromised sections. The situation has escalated from a mere inconvenience to a pressing safety hazard that demands immediate attention.
Sushant Haldankar, a concerned local from Van Maulinguem, emphasized the severity of the issue. "The road has become narrow as almost 2 metre of the stretch has not been repaired properly. Consequently, vehicles travelling towards Van Maulinguem and Chambharkond have to use the wrong side of the road to avoid the damaged road," he stated, highlighting the forced and risky maneuvers drivers must undertake.
Two-Wheeler Riders Face Heightened Accident Risks
The improper restoration poses an especially acute threat to two-wheeler riders, who are vulnerable to skidding and accidents on the uneven and damaged road surface. With the left portion of the road inadequately restored in numerous spots, the risk of mishaps has skyrocketed, turning routine commutes into potential danger zones.
Vithoba Malik, another local resident, provided a detailed account of the widespread problem. "There is a risk of accidents as the two-wheelers may skid due to improper restoration of the road. I have seen about 40-50 spots from the bus stand to Van Maulinguem wherein the left portion of the road has not been restored properly," he reported, underscoring the extensive nature of the negligence along the bypass route.
Urgent Calls for Immediate Road Restoration
Villagers and daily commuters have united in their appeal to the electricity department, urging authorities to prioritize the complete and proper restoration of the road at the earliest. The community's plea is clear: rectify the hazardous conditions promptly to prevent accidents and restore safe passage for all road users. The ongoing inconvenience and danger underscore a critical need for accountability and swift action from the responsible departments to ensure public safety is not compromised by infrastructure projects.
