Bihar Police Implements Statewide Security Overhaul After Delhi Blast
In response to the devastating car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station that claimed eight lives and left numerous injured, the Bihar Police has activated a comprehensive security protocol across the state. The heightened alert comes at a critical juncture as Bihar prepares for the second and final phase of its Assembly elections on Tuesday.
Security Advisory and Immediate Actions
The Bihar Deputy Inspector General of Anti-Terrorism Squad issued an urgent statewide security advisory on Monday night, directing all Senior Superintendents of Police and Superintendents of Police to maintain maximum vigilance. The circular explicitly noted that such incidents could have significant security implications during the ongoing polling process.
Police authorities have been instructed to conduct intensive vehicle and pedestrian checking at all religious sites, tourist destinations, crowded market areas, administrative buildings, military cantonments, and transportation hubs including bus terminals, railway stations, and metro facilities.
The security directive mandates several crucial measures:
- Ensuring 24-hour functional monitoring of all CCTV systems
- Strengthening security at border checkpoints and sensitive locations
- Maintaining close coordination between all security agencies
- Immediate response to any suspicious persons, vehicles, or abandoned objects
- Enhanced social media monitoring and prompt rumor control
Critical Installations Under Enhanced Protection
Following additional orders from the Additional Director General of Law and Order, Bihar Police has identified several vital installations requiring reinforced security. The list includes Mahabodhi Temple in Gaya, Hanuman Temple near Patna Junction, Guru Govind Sahib Gurdwara, and key industrial facilities such as Barh NTPC, Barauni Refinery, and Indian Oil Terminal at Sipara.
Airports in Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga have received additional security deployment, along with heightened protection around the Patna High Court, Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, and residences of dignitaries. District authorities have been directed to increase patrolling and frisking exercises at all high-footfall areas including shopping malls, railway stations, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and bus stands.
Political Response and Public Safety
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, expressed profound grief over the Delhi explosion, describing it as "distressing and deeply painful." In an official statement on social media platform X, Yadav emphasized that incidents of this nature in the national capital are particularly alarming.
"I extend heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Yadav stated. He reaffirmed his party's commitment to national security, referencing previous incidents like Pulwama and Pahalgam, and urged the central government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure severe punishment for the perpetrators.
As Bihar concluded its final phase of voting on Tuesday, police personnel remained on high alert throughout the state, with extensive checking operations and continuous security reviews ensuring public safety during this critical democratic exercise.
