BJP Ramps Up Organizational Efforts in Upper Assam Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections
With the 2026 Assam assembly elections approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has significantly intensified its organizational activities in the upper Assam region. In a major strategic move, a high-profile meeting was held at the BJP office in Sivasagar district on Monday, bringing together senior national and state leaders to formulate a comprehensive roadmap for the party's electoral campaign.
Key Leaders and Participants in the Strategic Deliberations
The meeting was led by prominent figures including former Sirsa MP Sunita Duggal, former Haryana minister JP Dalal, and Assam State Prabhari (in-charge) Harish Dwivedi. They were joined by Assam BJP vice president Pulak Gohain, state BJP secretary Lakhinath Tasa, and former MP Topon Kumar Gogoi. Additionally, office bearers from five assembly constituencies across Sivasagar and Charaideo districts participated, highlighting the party's focused effort to strengthen its presence in upper Assam.
Focus on Crucial Constituencies with Political Significance
Discussions during the meeting centered on five key constituencies: Nazira, Sivasagar, and Demow in Sivasagar district, along with Mahmora and Sonari in Charaideo district. The emphasis on Sivasagar and Nazira is particularly noteworthy. Sivasagar is currently represented by Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi, a vocal critic of the ruling government, while Nazira remains a Congress stronghold under leader of the opposition Debabrata Saikia.
This targeted approach signals the BJP's determination to reclaim these seats from rival parties in the upcoming polls. Harish Dwivedi emphasized, "Upper Assam holds immense strategic importance for the party. Our leadership is personally invested in ensuring that the BJP emerges stronger from every constituency in this region."
Grassroots Engagement and Confidence in Electoral Prospects
Sunita Duggal added, "We have been engaging extensively with workers and local leaders over the past several days. These meetings are vital to our grassroots preparation, and we are confident about the party's prospects across all constituencies. The leadership is here to listen to ground-level voices and fine-tune a strategy that reflects local aspirations. The enthusiasm and energy we have witnessed are truly encouraging."
The BJP's concerted outreach in upper Assam underscores its commitment to consolidating support and addressing regional issues as part of its broader electoral strategy for the 2026 assembly elections.
