BJP Leader Survives Gun Attack in Gangasagar, Political Conspiracy Alleged
Kolkata: Tension gripped the Gangasagar area of South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday morning after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at 60-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Trilokesh Dhali. The veteran politician survived the brazen attack and is currently undergoing treatment at Sagar Rural Hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Morning Prayer Ritual Turns Violent
Police sources detailed that the incident occurred around 8 am, a time when Dhali had stepped out to offer his daily prayers at the revered Kapil Muni Temple. As he was returning from the temple, two motorcycle-borne miscreants approached him, opened fire at close range, and then forcefully pushed him to the ground before fleeing the scene.
The attack left Dhali collapsed in a pool of blood. Hearing the loud gunshots, alarmed locals immediately rushed to the location and alerted the police. Law enforcement officers promptly arrived, rescued the injured BJP neta, and rushed him to the nearest medical facility for urgent care.
Medical Condition and Police Investigation
Hospital authorities confirmed that Trilokesh Dhali is in a stable condition but remains under strict medical observation as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the shooting. Teams are examining the crime scene, collecting forensic evidence, and reviewing local CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Political Conspiracy Allegations Surface
The attack has sparked a significant political controversy, with Dhali's family vehemently alleging a deliberate political conspiracy behind the assault. His son, Trideep Dhali, stated that his father was actively expecting a BJP ticket for the upcoming assembly elections and accused miscreants backed by the state's ruling party of orchestrating the attack to eliminate a political rival.
In a sharp rebuttal, Mathurapur Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Bapi Halder dismissed these allegations as baseless. "The BJP has developed a habit of blaming Trinamool for every unfortunate incident. This attack could very well be the result of internal factionalism within their own party. We have urged the police to conduct a thorough probe, identify the real culprits, and ensure they face strict legal punishment," Halder asserted.
The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, with security being bolstered around key BJP figures. The investigation continues as authorities work to unravel the motive behind this shocking act of violence against a senior political figure.
