BJP Leaders Raise Concerns Over Stalled Development Project in Ludhiana Ward
A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met with Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta on Wednesday to formally submit a memorandum addressing stalled development works in the city. The meeting focused on a specific project in Ward Number 70 that has reportedly been halted, sparking political controversy.
Allegations of Political Interference in Ward 70
According to the BJP representatives, including a former senior deputy mayor and a current BJP councillor, a contractor abruptly stopped ongoing development work in Ward 70 two days prior to the meeting. The delegation alleged that this action was taken "at the behest of the local AAP MLA," who had originally initiated the project some time ago. They claimed that despite a formal work order being issued, the contractor abandoned the site following instructions from the MLA.
"When the councillor questioned the contractor directly, he reportedly refused to restart the work, citing orders from above," the delegation stated. This has led to accusations that political motives are undermining essential urban development.
Commissioner's Assurance and Broader Implications
Following the submission of the memorandum, Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta assured the BJP leaders that the development work in Ward 70 would be resumed shortly. This commitment aims to address the immediate concerns raised by the delegation regarding project delays.
The BJP councillor emphasized that halting such projects constitutes an injustice to local residents, arguing that "politics should not interfere with development." The leaders highlighted the challenges they face in securing approvals for projects, only to encounter obstacles during implementation. "We work hard to get these projects approved, but then they are stopped in the field, causing unnecessary suffering to the public," they noted.
Historical Context and Calls for Non-Partisan Development
The former senior deputy mayor contrasted the current situation with past practices, claiming that during their tenure, there was no "pick and choose" policy regarding development projects. They asserted that development was carried out consistently, regardless of party affiliations, to ensure equitable progress across the city.
"While healthy political competition is essential, it should never come at the cost of the general public's welfare," the former official stressed. This statement underscores a broader call for maintaining development as a non-partisan issue, prioritizing community needs over political rivalries.
The incident in Ludhiana highlights ongoing tensions between political parties over urban development initiatives, with the BJP pushing for transparency and continuity in project execution to benefit residents without political bias.
