BJP Leader Asserts Government Will Not Force Projects on Opposing Villages

In a significant statement following recent protests, state BJP president Damodar 'Damu' Naik has declared that the government will not impose any development project on a village if the local residents are opposed to it. This announcement comes directly after Mirabag residents staged a gherao of the water resources department (WRD) assistant engineer, vehemently protesting against the proposed bandhara in their village.

Chief Minister Advised to Address Local Agitation

"The Chief Minister is fully aware of the agitation by Mirabag locals," Naik emphasized. "He has been advised to look into this matter thoroughly and take an appropriate decision that respects the will of the people." The BJP state president made it unequivocally clear that his party would never force any initiative against the wishes of the community it is intended to serve.

Development Loses Relevance Without Public Support

Naik elaborated on the party's stance, stating that while all development initiatives are fundamentally undertaken for the benefit of the people, such projects lose their entire relevance and purpose if they face opposition from the very individuals they are meant to assist. "Our primary effort is always to bring about positive improvements and progress," he explained. "However, if the people themselves are fundamentally opposed to a particular project, then it simply should not be taken forward under any circumstances."

Bandhara Project Sparks Intense Local Opposition

The proposed bandhara has emerged as a major flashpoint for local opposition in Mirabag. Residents have raised serious and persistent concerns about potential flooding in the village, which they fear could lead to catastrophic loss of homes, agricultural land, and livelihoods. The agitation reached a dramatic peak when frustrated locals surrounded the WRD assistant engineer, demanding in no uncertain terms that the government completely abandon the project.

This firm stance from the BJP leadership highlights a critical shift toward prioritizing community consent in developmental planning. The situation in Mirabag serves as a potent reminder that sustainable progress must align with the aspirations and concerns of the local population to be truly effective and accepted.
