In a closely contested election for the Kakdwip constituency in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dipankar Jana emerged victorious, securing 1,09,373 votes. He defeated the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Manturam Pakhira by a margin of 4,760 votes. Pakhira received 1,04,613 votes, finishing second in the tight race.

Constituency Details

Kakdwip is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal. It is a General category seat located in the South 24 Parganas district. The constituency is part of the Mathurapur (SC) parliamentary constituency, which comprises seven Assembly segments.

Previous Election Results

In the 2021 assembly election, Manturam Pakhira of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the seat. He had also won the constituency in the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections as an AITC candidate, securing three consecutive terms. In the recently held assembly polls, the TMC again fielded Pakhira, while the BJP nominated Dipankar Jana.

In the 2021 election, the AITC secured 52.14% of the vote share, while the BJP received 40.62% of the votes. This time, the lead shifted in early rounds before Jana pulled ahead, reflecting a change in voter sentiment.
