Election Results 2026
The 2026 assembly elections in Assam witnessed high voter enthusiasm, with the Goreswar seat being one of the key battlegrounds. The victory of Victor Kumar Das underscores the BJP's continued dominance in the region.
Meanwhile, Vijay's TVK party has emerged as a formidable force in Tamil Nadu, reshaping the political landscape. In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee trails behind Suvendu Adhikari after the second round of counting in Bhabanipur.
The TVK has pushed both the DMK and AIADMK to the margins, while the BJP is expected to retain Assam and potentially oust Mamata in Bengal.
High Voter Turnout
Exit polls had predicted a decisive edge for the incumbent government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, with most agencies forecasting a third straight term for the BJP in Assam. Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest in recent years.
Notably, strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement across the state.
