Congress Strengthens Grassroots Presence Ahead of Voter List Revision
The Jharkhand unit of the Congress party has taken a significant step toward strengthening its electoral machinery by deciding to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across the entire state before December 15. This crucial decision comes in preparation for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of voter lists, which the party leadership considers vital for ensuring fair electoral representation.
High-Level Meeting Sets December Deadline
The appointment strategy was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh. The meeting saw active participation from key party figures including state in-charge K Raju and co-incharge Sirivella Prasad, who collectively outlined the roadmap for strengthening the party's presence at the grassroots level.
During the proceedings, K Raju issued clear directives to all district Congress chiefs, emphasizing the urgency of ensuring BLA appointments in every polling booth across Jharkhand. The leadership also mobilized the party's elected representatives and previous candidates to actively contribute to this massive organizational exercise.
Vigilance Against Voter List Irregularities
The Congress leadership expressed serious concerns about potential irregularities in the voter list revision process. K Raju highlighted the alarming precedent set in neighboring Bihar, where approximately 56 lakh voters were removed from electoral rolls, raising questions about the fairness of the process.
"The upcoming SIR process in Jharkhand is going to be very crucial," Raju warned party leaders. "Around 56 lakh people were removed from the voter list in Bihar. The party must remain vigilant to ensure that such a situation does not arise in our state."
The party president, Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, went further to accuse the BJP of having ulterior motives in Jharkhand. "BJP could go to any extent to capture power in Jharkhand due to state's abundant natural resources," Kamlesh alleged during the meeting.
Public Awareness and Electoral Preparedness
Recognizing the importance of voter awareness, the Congress leadership stressed the need for early public outreach about the SIR process. Kamlesh emphasized that timely information dissemination would enable citizens to verify their voter registration status and take corrective measures if necessary.
"It is essential to reach out to the public well in advance about the SIR process so that people become aware and can get their names registered in the voter list on time," Kamlesh stated, outlining the party's commitment to ensuring that no legitimate voter is excluded from the electoral process.
The appointment of Booth Level Agents by December 15 represents a strategic move by the Congress party to establish a robust monitoring mechanism during the voter list revision exercise. These agents will serve as the party's eyes and ears at the polling booth level, ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral preparation process.
