Congress Workers Stage Protest Outside AAP MLA's Office in Amritsar Over Unfulfilled Poll Promises

Congress workers, led by constituency in-charge Jasbir Singh Dimpa, staged a significant protest and gheraoed the office of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jeevanjot Kaur in Amritsar East on Monday. The demonstration was part of a statewide campaign initiated by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, targeting ruling party MLAs and constituency in-charges for what the Congress describes as a failure to fulfil election manifesto commitments.

Allegations of Broken Promises and Public Resentment

Addressing supporters during the protest, Dimpa alleged that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has not delivered on several key promises as it approaches the completion of its fifth year in office. He highlighted growing public resentment, particularly criticizing the delay in implementing a promised financial assistance scheme for women. Dimpa stated that the government had pledged to provide Rs 1,000 per month to women, but there remains no clarity on when this benefit will be distributed.

He further accused the government of misleading women by attaching various conditions to the scheme, demanding that these be scrapped and the promised amount paid to all eligible women. Dimpa claimed that arrears totaling nearly Rs 48,000 for the past four years have not been disbursed, exacerbating financial hardships.

Criticism of State and Union Governments

In addition to the women's financial aid issue, Dimpa alleged that Punjab's financial condition has deteriorated under the current administration, with the state's debt burden increasing significantly. He also criticized the Union Government, accusing it of ignoring Punjab's rights and creating difficulties for residents through issues such as the availability of LPG cylinders, which he emphasized are essential for both households and businesses.

Dimpa warned that if the Centre and state government do not address these concerns and demands, the Congress party will intensify its agitation in the coming days, potentially escalating protests across Punjab.

Presence of Congress Leaders and Workers

The protest saw the participation of several prominent Congress leaders and workers, including Sourav Madan, Amritpal Singh Koslar, Raj Kumar, Maninder Singh "Lucky" Sandhu, Iqbal Singh Mudhal, and Sukhdev Singh Sehmi, among others. Their collective presence underscored the party's unified stance against the AAP government's perceived failures.

This event in Amritsar reflects broader political tensions in Punjab, as opposition parties ramp up pressure on the ruling AAP over governance and policy implementation ahead of potential electoral challenges.
