The result marks a significant shift in Gauripur, a constituency in Dhubri district known for high voter turnout and intense electoral contests. In 2021, AIUDF's Rahman had won the seat by over 48,000 votes, making the 2026 outcome a decisive reversal in favour of the Congress.

Gauripur is part of the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency and has traditionally seen strong participation from voters across communities. The scale of Sarkar's victory, with one of the highest vote tallies in the state, underlines a sweeping mandate in the constituency.

The 2026 Assam assembly elections recorded a historic turnout of 85.9%, the highest since 1951, with women voters at 86.5% outpacing men at 85.3%, reflecting robust electoral participation across the state.
