The stage is now completely set for the crucial counting of votes in the Dampa assembly constituency by-election that took place on Tuesday. According to official announcements, the vote counting process will commence at 8 am on Friday at the designated counting center in Mamit town.

Preparation and Counting Process Details

Returning Officer for the Dampa by-poll, Malsawmzuala, confirmed to Times of India through a telephone conversation from Mamit that all necessary preparations have been finalized. Counting officials have completed their comprehensive training and received final briefings on Thursday to ensure a smooth and transparent counting process.

The counting operations will be conducted at the District Commissioner's conference hall in Mamit town, where authorities have arranged nine counting tables to facilitate the process. The entire vote counting will be completed in five distinct rounds, ensuring systematic and accurate results.

Voter Turnout Statistics and Polling Station Performance

The by-election witnessed an impressive voter participation with 17,351 voters exercising their franchise out of a total electorate of 20,888. This translates to a substantial 83.07% voter turnout, demonstrating strong democratic engagement in the constituency.

The gender-wise breakdown reveals that 8,921 male voters and 8,430 female voters cast their ballots during Tuesday's election. However, the final tally remains incomplete as votes cast through postal ballots are yet to be included in the overall count.

Among the 41 polling stations established across the constituency, Hruiduk polling station emerged as the highest performer with a remarkable 93.09% voter turnout where 666 electors participated. In contrast, Zopui recorded the lowest participation rate at 75.86% with merely 30 voters turning up at this particular station.

Candidates and Expected Result Timeline

Five candidates are in the fray for the Dampa assembly seat, representing major political parties in the region. The contestants include Lalhmingthanga Sailo from BJP, John Rotluangliana representing the Indian National Congress, R Lalthangliana of Mizo National Front (MNF), Vanlalsailova from the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and K Zahmingthanga of the People's Conference (PC).

Election authorities have indicated that the final outcomes are expected to be declared by Friday forenoon, bringing clarity to this significant political contest that has attracted considerable attention across Mizoram.
