DMK Alliance Stands Firm as Rivals' Hopes of Split Are Shattered

Chennai/Thanjavur: In a strong political statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin has declared that the dreams of his party's political opponents for the ruling alliance to break apart have been completely shattered. Stalin alleged that these rivals, lacking confidence in their own strength, were eagerly waiting for the DMK's coalition to disintegrate and even attempted to entice DMK's allies through various offers.

Democratic Talks Strengthen Alliance

Contrary to the expectations of these political adversaries, Stalin emphasized that the DMK and its allies continued their seat-sharing negotiations in a thoroughly democratic manner, guided by a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. The talks were conducted with two primary objectives: to prevent any space for communal politics in Tamil Nadu and to ensure that the state's rights and interests were not compromised in any way.

"Our political opponents, who lacked confidence in their strength, were eagerly waiting for our alliance to break. They were dreaming that our partners would leave us. Some even tried to break the alliance by making offers to our allies," Stalin stated in a detailed letter addressed to DMK cadres, specifically referencing the recent impasse in DMK–Congress seat-sharing discussions.

Historical Continuity and Growing Strength

Stalin highlighted the remarkable continuity of the Secular Progressive Alliance, which was originally formed for the 2019 parliamentary elections. This coalition has successfully persisted through multiple electoral contests, including the 2020 rural local body elections, the 2021 assembly election, the 2022 urban local body polls, the 2024 parliamentary election, and several significant by-elections. Not only has the alliance emerged victorious in these electoral battles, but it has also gained additional strength with more political parties choosing to join its ranks over time.

"Not only has the alliance won these electoral battles, but has also gained additional strength with more parties joining it," Stalin affirmed, underscoring the coalition's expanding influence and unity.

A Unique Political Opportunity

The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to travel alongside ideologically cohesive alliance partners toward achieving common political goals. He noted that this particular circumstance was something that even his predecessor and revered DMK leader, M Karunanidhi, did not have the chance to experience during his tenure. Stalin described this as a unique moment in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, where diverse parties have come together under a shared vision.

Call to Action for Upcoming Elections

Looking ahead to the upcoming assembly elections, Stalin declared that this is the moment when years of dedicated hard work and strategic planning are expected to bear fruit. He passionately called upon all DMK cadres to gather in large numbers for the party's crucial state conference scheduled to take place in Trichy on March 9, emphasizing the importance of unity and mobilization as election season approaches.

Seat-Sharing Success and Spontaneous Gesture

Earlier in the day, while speaking at a family function of School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in Thanjavur, Stalin revealed that he had arrived with a profound sense of satisfaction after successfully completing the seat-sharing talks with the Congress party. He described the negotiations as having been conducted "in a manner that everyone appreciated," indicating broad approval of the outcome.

When questioned about the distinctive hand gesture he made as he entered his car following the conclusion of the seat-sharing discussions, Stalin clarified that it was entirely spontaneous and not pre-planned. "Journalists asked if talks were over and I responded it was done. It's finished," he explained, portraying the gesture as a natural expression of relief and accomplishment at the successful completion of the complex political negotiations.
