Elderly man killed by son with spade in Jharkhand

Daltonganj: In a tragic incident, a 61-year-old man was allegedly killed by his son with a spade in a village in Latehar district during the intervening hours of Wednesday and Thursday. The deceased, Raj Kumar Singh, a retired driver, resided in Baree village under the Manika police station limits. The accused, identified as Chandan Kumar Singh, in his mid-twenties, killed his father over a minor dispute and fled the scene after the incident.

Police investigation underway

Prabhat Kumar Das, the officer-in-charge of Manika police station, stated that the police have seized the murder weapon and also recovered the blood-soaked bed sheet on which the deceased was found lying. He added, "There were some heated arguments between the two over a minor issue, as we learned, which turned violent." The postmortem examination was conducted at Latehar Sadar Hospital.

Search for the accused

Police mentioned that the family members are likely to file an FIR after Raj's cremation. Meanwhile, a search operation is underway to apprehend Chandan Kumar Singh, who is currently on the run. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the consequences of domestic disputes turning fatal.
